Friendly Phishing

The college utilizes Awareity MOAT to automate the process of complying with the State Ethics Commission and our own Information Security Program each year.  Many of you will see the reminders start coming out in March as we first enrolled everyone at this time.  Any employees hired in the last few years will see their annual reminder in the month they were hired.  Since the real MOAT messages will be coming soon for most I thought I would use it as the example this month.

One of the links below is real and will take you to the college’s policy management system at https://edu.moatusers.com/ and the other three links take you to harmless sites.  See if you can determine which one is real without clicking on them.  As always you can click on all of them to test yourself as they are all safe but again only one takes you to MOAT.

New Video Equipment in the White Room

ITS has installed a new camera, microphone and switched to Skype for Business in the White Room.  If you haven’t recently had a video conference with the room you will be very pleased with the tremendous improvement in picture and sound quality.  This room continues to work with all of our traditional Polycomm rooms like TC103 and LC301.

WordPress Content Management System (CMS)

Another one of our long-time, cost-saving measures has been utilizing WordPress as the system that drives our many websites.  Due to the fact that WordPress is free many organizations use it and many developers build applications for it that are used across the globe.  This provides inexpensive applications to all since the market for WordPress is so large.  Take a look at the latest market share numbers from Google Trends below.

Customer Resource Management (CRM)

This month we are preparing to look at a new CRM for the college.  There will be many demonstrations of the top products on campus and key stakeholders will be included from all areas involved.

A CRM provides a streamlined management system to assist college staff in lead, contact and sales management providing valuable reports and dashboards.  Our focus here at NECC includes prospective students as well as donors, alumni and corporate partnerships.

If you are interested in learning more please stop by an IT Committee meeting or feel free to reply to me directly.  We are looking at several solutions but here is one pre-recorded demo of a CRM called Slate:

Getting Involved with IT

As always if you have any questions or would like to get involved with IT at the college don’t hesitate to contact me directly or the chair of the IT Committee, Lori Heymans (lheymans@necc.mass.edu.)

Thank you,

Jeff
